Please introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your background as a designer.
Hi, I’m Jamie Davis, founder of JDesign Co. My career started in tenant improvements and corporate design, followed by construction management for offices and banks. While that gave me a strong technical foundation, I missed the creative side of design and wanted to jump back in.
I later worked as a project manager on high-end custom homes throughout Southern California, collaborating closely with architects and designers, creating floor plans, specifying finishes, and solving problems onsite with subcontractors. I also spent time as a kitchen and bath designer and cabinet dealer, which gave me deep knowledge of cabinetry and layouts.
After starting my family, I needed more flexibility in my schedule, which led me to form JDesign Co. in 2023. Here we are — bringing together design, construction knowledge, and real-world experience to create thoughtful, buildable spaces.
What inspires your design work?
I’m deeply inspired by texture and the way materials layer and interact. I pull a lot of inspiration from hotels and restaurants, where designers tend to take more risks and introduce fun, unexpected elements. I love finding ways to translate those moments into residential spaces in a way that still feels livable and timeless.
I’m also drawn to color, but I’m mindful that not everyone is comfortable with bold choices — so I focus on incorporating it in ways that feel intentional, balanced and right for each client.
Can you tell us about this project where you featured Atlas Homewares?
In this recent bathroom project, I used Atlas Homewares Victoriaknobs on the custom walnut cabinetry. The classic shape paired with the warm wood finish added just the right amount of polish without feeling overly formal. I love how the hardware subtly elevates the space — it complements the traditional details while still feeling fresh and timeless. It’s a great example of how the right hardware can quietly enhance texture, balance, and overall cohesion in a room without overpowering the design.
What led you to choose Atlas Homewares for your project?
I’m drawn to Atlas Homewares for the quality you can feel right away — the weight, finish, and thoughtful shapes really stand out. Their hardware feels substantial and well-made, which instantly elevates a space. I also love that the designs strike a balance between classic and modern, making them easy to layer into a wide range of projects while still feeling special.
Tell us about yourself. What is your design style, passion, and/or inspiration?
Although my style has a more relaxed modern industrial vibe, I always tell clients that it’s not about what my style is; but instead about me navigating the design decisions to pull their style out, even if they don’t know what that is. I love being creative and pulling inspiration from my love of the outdoors. Design is definitely a passion that finds its way into everything I do.
What advice do you give to clients—or fellow designers—when selecting decorative hardware?
Don’t treat hardware as an afterthought. Think about how and where it will be used, not just how it looks. I also encourage clients and designers to consider scale, finish, and whether they naturally prefer knobs or pulls, since that comes down to both function and personal comfort. Choosing hardware that feels intuitive to use and intentional within the overall design will always stand the test of time.
How does the touch and feel of hardware factor into your product selection?
Touch and feel are huge for me. Hardware is one of the few elements clients interact with every single day, so it needs to feel solid, comfortable, and well-balanced in the hand. A lot of my clients have young kids, so it also has to withstand the daily wear, tear, and general craziness that comes with that stage of life. When hardware feels good and holds up over time, it quietly reinforces quality in a way that really matters.
Do you have a go-to finish from Atlas Homewares?
Yes, I often default to Atlas Homewares in Polished Nickel. It has a warmth that plays beautifully with so many materials and finishes.
Have you ever mixed and matched hardware styles or finishes in a project?
Yes, I actually do this a lot, especially in kitchens. I love mixing brass with polished nickel because it adds depth and visual interest without feeling busy when done well. I’ll often use long pulls paired with knobs to create contrast and balance. The key is to keep the overall palette cohesive, so the mix feels thoughtful, not random.
What kitchen and bath trends are you currently loving? How does decorative hardware play a role in that?
I love that bold colors are still going strong, paired with a shift toward a more lived-in look. That approach feels warmer and more personal, which I’m really drawn to. It also plays beautifully with hardware; it opens the door to selecting more vintage-inspired pieces with added detail and character, using hardware as a fun accent that adds uniqueness or depth to the space.
Are there any common mistakes you see with hardware selection? How can they be avoided?
A common mistake I see is incorrect placement and sizing. When proportions are off, even beautiful hardware can feel awkward. Taking the time to mock it up or review elevations makes a big difference in the final result.
What has your overall experience been like working with Atlas Homewares?
My experience working with Atlas Homewares has been seamless from start to finish. The selection process is straightforward, the quality is consistent, and installation is always smooth because the hardware feels well-made and thoughtfully designed. It’s a product I can specify with confidence, knowing it will look great and hold up over time.
